Welcome to the home of the Gloucestershire Police Male Voice Choir ...serving the community through music and song since 1970

Here at the Gloucestershire Police Male Voice Choir, we love singing together and entertaining people with our varied and interesting musical repertoire, which includes modern pop songs, classic standards and lively show tunes, as well as the more traditional hymns and choral pieces that are usually associated with male voice choirs.

Apart from simply having fun singing all these great songs, the reason the choir was set-up in the first place was to help local charities and other good causes to raise money – and it seems we’re rather good at it!

Dear Mr Johns

I am writing on behalf of the James Hopkins Trust to thank you for your kind and generous donation of £254.90. We really do appreciate your support. Please pass our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved.

As I’m sure you are aware, we provide nursing respite care for severely disabled, life limited & life threatened young children aged under six in Gloucestershire.

We have been providing this service since 1989, and this year we are very excited to be celebrating our 30th year anniversary.

Over this time we have grown significantly, from giving nursing care to a handful of children in their family home during our early years, to where we are now, supporting hundreds of Gloucestershire’s families.

Your donation and support really does make a tremendous difference to help us provide this on-going vital care and support to our families.

Yours sincerely,
Sarah James

BOOKING A CONCERT

If you’re involved with a charity or good cause and would like us to put on a concert to help you raise some money, please complete the form and we’ll get back to you straightaway.

Our concerts usually take place on Friday or Saturday evenings, but we’re flexible so let us know when you’d like us to perform and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

We are in constant demand though, so please do check our Upcoming Events page first, to make sure we’re not already booked on the date you have in mind! Also, please be aware that the choir consists of more than 50 members, and we generally perform to audiences of at least 100 people, so any booking would require a concert venue that is able to accommodate these numbers.

You don't need to be in the police or have been a policeman to join the Gloucestershire Police Male Voice Choir!

Originally, the choir was primarily made up of serving and retired members of the regular police force and special constabulary from across Gloucestershire. However, nowadays the vast majority of the choir are non-police members who just want to sing great songs and have fun entertaining people while raising money for charity and good causes.

The choir is much travelled, having toured Northern California, Germany, Scotland, Wales, Jersey and many areas of England. During recent years, the choir has had the honour of singing in York Minster and the Anglican Cathedral of Liverpool, as well as the cathedrals of Derby, Durham, Gloucester, Guildford, Hereford, Llandaff, Peterborough, Salisbury, Winchester and Worcester.

We have also performed at many other prestigious venues, such as Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Colston Hall in Bristol, Cardiff Arms Park, the Albert Hall in Nottingham, Poole Lighthouse, the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Fitzalan Chapel in Arundel Castle, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and Chester Cathedral.

Enjoy a sing song yourself?

If you’re interested in joining a choir, why not give us a try? Soloist quality is not necessary, but a will to learn and practice is obviously essential, as is regular commitment to the group.

The rewards from singing in a male voice choir are immense. They include huge personal enjoyment and satisfaction, as well as the chance to perform on many different stages, and a friendship and camaraderie within the choir which is second-to-none.

We rehearse Monday evenings from 7.30pm-9pm at the Gala Club in Fairmile Gardens, Gloucester GL2 9EB. Get in touch or just come along. We promise you a warm welcome!
